Bovine pituitary extract (BPE) is an extract from bovine pituitary gland, which is used for primary or stem cell culture in serum-free or serum-deficient conditions. The extract is used in conjunction with other growth factors, hormones and basal media to reduce or eliminate serum dosage in cultured non-fibroblast types. BPE is provided in the form of solution, freeze-dried powder will reduce its biological activity. The raw materials used for manufacturing this series of products are from the United States or New Zealand.
Intended Use
For Further Manufacturing or Research Use Only. Not for Diagnostic or Therapeutic Use.
Use Instructions
BPE is a serum-free mitogenic additive containing a unique mixture of natural growth factors and can be used in combination with MCDB series (MCDB170 or MSDB154) or DMEM/Ham's F12 basal medium. For the growth of monolayer epithelial cells, the recommended concentration is 35 ~ 70ug / ml BPE. By using an optimized basal medium, such as MCDB170 or MCDB154, the concentration can be reduced. The most effective way to determine the optimum BPE concentration is to make simple growth assays on selected cells. It is recommended to separate the product into a single volume to avoid possible loss of activity caused by repeated freezing and thawing.
Storage and Stability
Store at –5 to –30°C. Product is stable for 18 months from the date of manufacture if kept at frozen temperature. We suggest that the product should not be subjected to multiple freeze-thaw cycles, should be made into aliquots.
